Accountability
You must be willing to take accountability both for you Ws and Ls. If you look closely at companies that fail or even recall something from your personal experience, more often than not the chaos stems from the lack of acocuntability and cases when none of the team members are willing to own mistakes or take on more responsibility. On top of that, if you want to progress and transition into a bigger role like a team lead or a creative director — you can only do that if you can handle extra responsibility.
If you’re someone who gets an ‘ick’ when the manager calls his team a family I have good news for you: we hate that too. And the reason is twofold: first of all it’s all bullshit, let’s be honest. Nothing is more cringe than calling your “subordinates” your family. And secondly, the conventional meaning of the word family implies that regardless of the outcome or “performance” the family member - he or she stays in the room and just can’t be kicked out. Our culture is more aligned with sports teams. If you underperform, and you keep underperforming even with teammates’ support — we’re sorry but you have to go.
